Frank Busch, the inventor of the Natural 10 Beauty nail treatments, answers the question: “Why fluoride for nails?”

My daughter told me she believed that fluoride was a proven miracle for teeth but wondered why fluoride for the nails?

I invented our fluoride treatment for fingernails by accident. As a cosmetic chemist, I was working on a tooth whitening product and was reading for the first time the reason fluoride worked so well in eliminating tooth decay. The fluoride in toothpaste actually bonds with the calcium in the tooth to form a very strong hard surface on the tooth. Talk about a light bulb going off in my brain. I knew that the fingernail contained calcium and that fluoride should bond with it the same way fluoride works in toothpaste. I immediately went to the laboratory and made the first fluoride fingernail treatment.

But does it work? Fortunately fingernail strength can be very easily measured. We use a special little device to measure the force to bend the nail before treatment and then we re-measure it on a weekly basis. The results of our first clinical trial were truly amazing. The strength of our first group of test nails actually doubled in four weeks. These results were since duplicated by two independent laboratories. This idea was so new that we were granted patents both here and many other countries.
